(မူ-၁) မင်းတကာတို့ ချစ်ကြည် လေးစားအပ်၍့ ပိယဒဿီဟု ဝှဲ့ချီ-ခပ်နှိပ် အရှင်မဟာကဿပ မထေရ်မြတ်၏့ ဗျာဒိတ်တော်ကို ခံယူ-ရရှိသော အသောက မင်းတြားကြီးသည်……….(ဤနေရာ၌ စာ ၂ကြောင်းခွဲးခန့် ပျက်စီး ရှိ၏၊)…ရဟန်းယောကျင်္ား, ရဟန်းမ-သံဃာတော်၏ အလုပ်အကျွေး အဖြစ်ဖြင့် အနာဂါရိက အဝတ်ဖြူ ဝတ်တို့ကို နေထိုင်စေတော်မူ၏၊ ဤအတိုင်း ဤသတင်းစကားကို ရဟန်းသံဃာတော် များ အထံတော်သို့၎င်း, ရဟန်းမ-သံဃာတော်များ အထံတော်သို့ ၎င်း, လျှောက်ထားခွင့်ပန်တော်မူ၏၊ မင်းတကာတို့ ချစ်ကြည်အပ်သော အသောက မင်းတြားကြီး မိန့်ပြန်တော်မူပြီ၊ ဤနှင့်အလားတူ စာသဝဏ် တခုကိုလည်း သင်တို့အထံ၌ ရှိပြီဟု ခရီးယာယီဆောင် စာတော် တခု ထားရှိစေတော်မူ၏၊ ဤနှင့်အလားတူ အမိန့်သဝဏ်စာ တစောင်ကိုလည်း ဥပါသကာတို့ အထံ၌ အပ်နှံထားကြစေ၊ ထိုဥပါသကာတို့လည်း ဥပုသ်နေ့တိုင်း ဤသဝဏ်စာတော်ကိုပင် ကောင်းစွာ ဖတ်ရှု၍့ သံသယကင်းအောင် ပြုလုပ်ကြစေ၊ ဥပုသ်နေ့တိုင်းလည်း ၂ကြိမ်တိုင် တယောက် တယောက်သော အမတ်ကြီးတို့ကို ဥပုသ် စောင့်သုံးပြုစုကြစေကုန်၊ ဤသဝဏ်စာ တခုကိုပင် သံသယ ကင်းအောင် သိနားလည်ကြစေ၊ ဤအမိန့်မှတ်ချက်စာတော်ဖြင့်ပင် သင်တို့ အခွင့်အလှည့် ကုန်သည်တိုင်အောင် ထိုထို နေရပ်တို့၌ ပြောင်းလှဲး နေထိုင်ကြစေ၊ အလုံးစုံသော ကျောင်း-အာရာမ်တို့၌ ဤစာဖြင့်သာ ပြောင်းရွှေ့နေထိုင်ကြစေ။ (အသောကမင်းတရားကြီး၏ အသောကကျောက်စာတော် - အရှင်အာဒိစ္စဝံသ)

(မူ-၂) နတ်တို့ချစ်အပ်သော အသောကမင်တြားကြီး ဤသို့ မြွက်ကြား၏၊ သံဃာတော်များသည် ဂိုဏ်းအသင်းအပင်း မကွဲးပြားရ၊ မည်သူမဆို, ရဟန်းဖြစ်စေ, ရဟန်းမဖြစ်စေ ဂိုဏ်း-အသင်းအပင်းခွဲးခဲ့လျှင်, အဝတ်ဖြူ ဝတ်စေ၍့ ရဟန်းတို့ နေရာမဟုတ်ရာတွင် နေထိုင်စေလိမ့်မည်။ ဤစာတော်ကို ရဟန်းနှင့် ရဟန်းမတို့အား ပြန်ကြားသိကြစေရမည်။
အသောကမင်းတြားကြီး ဤသို့ မြွက်ကြားတော်မူ၏။ -ဤနှင့်အလားတူ အမိန့်စာကို တည်ထား ရှိစေရမည်ဟု စည်းဝေးရာ၌ သင်တို့အား မြွက်ကြားပူးပြီ၊ ထိုမှ တပါး ရေးသားသည့် စာချွန်ကိုလည်း ဥပါသကာမတို့အတွက် ဖော်ပြရေးသားရမည်။ ဥပါသကာတို့ကလည်း ဤစာတော်ကို ယုံကြည် လေးစားစွာ အားထုတ်ရန် လ၏့ ပထမနေ့တိုင်း ဂရုစိုက်ကြရမည်။ ထို့အတူ လ၏့ ပထမနေ့တိုင်း ဤစာတော်၌ ပါဝင်စေ၍့ မိမိတို့ကိုယ်တိုင် ယုံကြည်စွာ အားထုတ်ရန် ကြောင့်ကြစိုက်ကြရမည်။
ထို့ပြင်, သင်တို့ ဒိုင်နယ် အကျယ်အဝန်း ရှိသမျှ အတွင်း၌ အစေ့-အင စာတော်၏့ အာဘော်ကို သိနားလည်စေရမည်၊ ထို့အတူလျှင် မြို့တော်များ ဒိုင်နယ်များအတွင်း၌လည်း ဤစာတော်နှင့် အညီ ပြုကျင့်လိုက်နာစေရန် ပြန်ကြားသိစေရမည်။ (အသောကမင်းတရားကြီး၏ အသောကကျောက်စာတော် - အရှင်အာဒိစ္စဝံသ)

နတ်တို့ချစ်မြတ်နိုးသော ပိယဒသီမင်းကြီး မိန့်တော်မူသည်မှာ-
ပါဋလိပုတ်ပြည်၌၎င်း၊ ပြင်ပမြို့တို့၌၎င်း၊ မည်သူမျှ သံဃာကို ဂိုဏ်းမခွဲရာ။ တစုံတယောက်သော ရဟန်းယောင်္ကျား၊ ရဟန်းမိန်းမသည်၊ သံဃာကို ဂိုဏ်းခွဲအံ့။ ထိုသူအား ဝတ်ဖြူကို ဝတ်စေ၍၊ ရဟန်းကျောင်း မဟုတ်သည်၌ နေစေရာ၏။
ဤသို့လျှင်၊ ဤအကြောင်းကို၊ ဘိက္ခု သံဃာ (ရဟန်းယောင်္ကျားအဖွဲ့)အား၎င်း၊ ဘိက္ခုနိသံဃာ (ရဟန်းမိန်းမအဖွဲ့)အား၎င်း၊ လျှောက်ကြားထားစေရာ၏။
နတ်တို့ချစ်မြတ်နိုးသော မင်းကြီး ဤသို့ မိန့်တော်မူ၏။
ဤအမိန့်စာ၏ မိတ်တူတစောင်ကို အသျှင်တို့ အထံ၌ ရှိစေ၍၊ အသျှင်တို့ စုရုံးသတင်းသုံရာ ကျောင်း၌ သိမ်းဆည်းထားပါလေ၊ အခြား မိတ်တူတစောင်ကို၊ အသျှင်တို့၏ လူဒါယကာများထံ၌ သိမ်းဆည်းထားပါလေစေ။ ထိုလူဒါယကာတို့သည်လည်း ဥပုသ်နေ့တိုင်း ဤအမိန့်တော်၌ ယုံကြည်ကိုးစားစိတ် ဖြစ်ပေါ်စေခြင်းငှာ (သံဃာတို့ ရှိရာသို့) သွားကြစေသတည်း။ ဥပုသ်နေ့တိုင်းပင်၊ အမတ်ကြီးတဦးကျစီလည်း၊ ဥပုသ်စောင့်သုံးရန်၊ ဤအမိန့်တော်၌ ယုံကြည်ကိုးစားစိတ် ဖြစ်စေရန်နှင့်၊ ဤအမိန့်တော်ကို ကြေငြာရန် မပျက်မကွက် သွားကြပေလိမ့်အံ့။ သင်တို့ မှီကမ်းနိုင်သလောက် အရပ်တိုင်းတို့သို့လည်း၊ ဤအကြောင်းကို၊ အမိန့်တော်ပါစကားအတိုင်း သတင်းဖြန့်လွှင့်ကြကုန်ရာ၏။ ထိုနည်းတူစွာ ဤအကြောင်းကို အမိန့်တော်ပါ စကားအတိုင်း ခပ်သိမ်းသော ခရိုင်မြို့တို့သို့လည်း၊ သတင်းဖြန့်လွှင့်စေရာ၏။ (အသောကကျောက်စာများ-ဦးဖိုးလတ်)

[Thus saith] His Sacred [and Gracious] Majesty [the King]:
(I) ‘[Both] at Pata[liputra and in the provinces, His Sacred Majesty instructs the High Officers that] the Church may not be rent in twain by any person Whosoever, be it monk or be it nun, shall mislead [lit. “deflect”] the Church shall be vested in white garments and compelled to dwell in an external residence. Thus should this order be made known, both in the congregation of the monks and in the congregation of the nuns.’
(II) Thus saith His Sacred Majesty: ‘One copy of this order (sasane) accessible to you has been posted in the samsarana. See that you have another copy posted so as to be accessible to the lay-disciples. Those lay-disciples, too, on every fast-day must make themselves acquainted with this ordinance (sasane). On every fast-day throughout the year the High Officers must attend the fast-day service in order to make themselves acquainted and familiar with the order. And so far as your jurisdiction extends you must, in accordance with this text, everywhere carry out the expulsion. Similarly, in all fortified towns and Districts you must see that the expulsion is effected according to the text.’ (V. A. Smith, Asoka, the Buddhist Emperor of India)

(Thus ordains) His Sacred (and Gracious) Majesty...Pata (liputra)... the Samgha cannot be torn asunder by any one whatsoever. Whoever, monk or nun, breaks up the Samgha must be made to wear white garments and to take up abode in a place other than a monastery.
Thus should this order be made known in the Samghas of Bhiksus as well as of Bhiksunis.
Thus directs His Sacred Majesty: Let one such Edict be with you, deposited in the cloister of the vihara; deposit ye another self-same Edict with the Updsakas (lay- worshippers).
Those Updsakas may come on each fast day in order to acquaint themselves with this very Edict. And on every fast day regularly (will) each Mahamatra go for the fast- day service in order to acquaint himself with this Edict and understand it fully. And as far as your jurisdiction extends, you are to get dispatched everywhere (an order) to this effect. In this manner, also, in all fortified towns, and districts, have this order sent out to this effect. (R.K. Mookerji, Asoka.)

Thus commands king Priyadarsi the Beloved of the gods…………. Pataliputra………the Samgha cannot be divided by any body. But whosoever creates schism in the Samgha, be it a monk or nun, shall be dressed in white garments, and forced to live in what is not a place (of mendicants). Thus, this command should be communicated to the Samghas of monks and nuns.
Thus saith the Beloved of the gods: One such edict has been deposited with you in your office so that it may be within your reach. And deposit ye another copy of such edict so as to be within the reach of the laity. And these lay worshippers may come on every fast day, to know and understand this very edict. And regularly on every fast day will each Mahamatra go for the fast day service in order to understand and know this edict fully well. And as far as your jurisdiction goes, you must proceed on tour with this specification (of order). Likewise you must send your subordinates to the fortified towns and districts sub-divisional areas with this specification (of order). (Naresh Prasad Rastogi, Inscriptions of Asoka)
