- ၀သ-အဘိသိတေန မေ ဓံမလိပိ လိခါပိတာ လောကသာ ဟိတသုခါယေ။ သေ တံ အပဟဋာ တံ တံ ဓံမ၀ဎိ ပါပေါဝါ။
- ဟေဝံ လောကသာ ဟိတသုခေ တိ ပဋိဝေခါမိ အထ ဣယံ
- နာတိသု ဟေဝံ ပတိယာသံနေသု ဟေဝံ အပကဌေသု တိမံ ကာနိ သုခံ အဝဟာမီ တိ တထ စ ဝိဒဟာမိ။ ဟေမေဝါ
- သ၀နိကာယေသု ပဋိဝေခါမိ။ သ၀ပါသံဍာ ပိ မေ ပူဇိတာ - ဝိဝိဓာယေ ပူဇာယာ။ ဧ စု ဣယံ အတုနာ ပစူပဂမနေ - သေ မေ မောချမတေ။ သဍုဝီသတိ၀သ အဘိသိတေန မေ

မင်းတကာတို့ ချစ်ကြည် လေးစားအပ်၍ ပိယဒဿီဟု ဝှဲ့ချီ ခပ်နှိပ် အရှင်မဟာကဿပ မထေရ်မြတ်၏့ ဗျာဒိတ်တော်ကို ခံယူ-ရရှိသော အသောကမင်းတြားမြတ်ကြီး ဤသို့ မိန့်မြွက် ပြန်ကြားထားတော်မူပြီ၊ ဤတရားစာတော်ကို ငါဘုရင်မင်းမြတ် အဘိသိက် သွန်း၍့ ၂၆နှစ်မြောက်တွင် လောကနေသူ ဗို်လ်လူအပေါင်း၏့ စီးပွား-ချမ်းသာ အလို့ငှာ၎င်း, ထိုသို့ ဖြစ်ရန် မပေါ်လွင်မထင်ရှား, အများမသိ တိမ်မြုတ်နေသာ တရားတော်တို့၏့ ပေါ်လွင် ထင်ရှားကြီးပွားခြင်းသို့ ရောက်စေရန်၎င်း, ရေးသားထားစေအပ်၏၊ ဤသို့အားဖြင့် လောကနေသူ ဗိုလ်လူတို့ အစီးအပွား များစွာသော ချမ်းသာဖြစ်၏ဟု ဆင်ခြင် ချိန်ဆတော်မူမိ၏၊ ထိုအခါ ရှေးဦးစွာ ဤတရားတော်ကို ဆွေတော်, မျိုးတော်တို့ အတွင်း၌ ကျင့်ဆောင် လိုက်နာရန် စီမံတော်မူ၏။ ထို့အတူပင်, နှီးနွယ်စပ်ဖက်သော မိတ်ဆွေများအတွင်း၌၎င်း, တရားတော်ကို အလျင်းမသိရှိသေးသူတို့ အတွင်း၌၎င်း, ၎င်းတို့ ချမ်းသာကို ဆောင်နိုင်စွာသော တရားကျင့်ဝတ်ကို စီမံတော်မူ၏၊ ဤနှင့်အလားတူသာလျှင် အားလုံးသော အယူဝါဒတပါးတို့ အတွင်း၌လည်း ပြုကျင့်ရန် ကြံစည်ချိန်ဆတော်မူ၏။ ငါဘုရင်မင်းမြတ်ကား အားလုံးသော အခြားအယူဝါဒရှိသူတို့ကိုလည်း အထူးထူးသော ပူဇော်ခြင်း, ခြီးမြှောက်ခြင်းမျိုးဖြင့် ပူဇော် ခြီးမြှောက်တော်မူ၏၊ ယင်းသို့ ပြုခြင်းကား မိမိနှင့် အယူတပါးရှိသူတို့ အချင်းချင်း နှီးနှောမိရန်သာ မုချ ငါမင်းမြတ် အလို ဖြစ်တော်မူသည်၊ ဤကျောက်စာကို ငါမင်းမြတ် အဘိသိက်သွန်း၍့ ၂၆နှစ်မြောက်အခါ ရေးသားထားစေတော်မူ၏၊ ဤသို့ အသောက မင်းတရားကြီး မိန့်ကြား မြွက်ဆိုတော်မူပြီ။ (အရှင်အာဒိစ္စဝံသ, အသောကမင်းတရားကြီး၏့ ကျောက်စာတော်)

နတ်တို့ချစ်မြတ်နိုးသော ပိယဒသီ မင်းကြီး ဤသို့ မိန့်တော်မူ၏။ ငါ အဘိသိက်ခံသည်မှ တစ်ဆဲ့နှစ်နှစ်မြောက်၌ လူအပေါင်းတို့၏ စီးပွားချမ်းသာအလို့ငှာ၊ တရားကဗျည်းများကို ငါ ရေးထိုးစေ၏။ လူတို့သည် ထိုတရားကဗျည်းများကို ချိုးဖောက်ဖျက်ဆီးခြင်း မပြုပဲ၊ ထိုထို တရားတို့၌ ကြီးပွားတိုးတက်ခြင်းသို့ ရောက်ကုန်ရာ၏။ ဤသို့လျှင် လူအပေါင်းတို့၏ စီးပွားချမ်းသာကို ငါ စောင့်ရှောက်ကြည့်ရှုပိ၏။ ငါ၏ အဆွေအမျိုးတို့နှင့် အလားတူ၊ ငါနှင့် အနီးအဝေးနေသူတို့၏ စီးပွားချမ်းသာကိုလည်း ငါ စောင့်ရှောက်ကြည့်ရှုပိ၏။ မည်သူ့အားမဆို မည်သည့်ချမ်းသာကို မဆို ဆောင်နိုင်က ငါဆောင်အံ့။ ဤသို့လျှင် ခပ်သိမ်းသော အမျိုးသားတို့အား ငါ စောင့်ရှောက် ကြည့်တော်မူ၏။ ခပ်သိမ်းသော အယူဝါဒဂိုဏ်းသားတို့အားလည်း အထူးထူးသော ပူဇော်ခြင်းတို့ဖြင့်၊ ငါ ချီးမြှင့် ပူဇော်တော်မူ၏။ သို့ရာတွင် ထိုသူတို့အား မိမိကိုတိုင် သွားရောက်တွေ့ဆုံခြင်းသည်သာ အရေးကြီးသည်ဟု ငါ ထင်မှတ်တော်မူ၏။ ငါ အဘိသိက်ခံသည်မှ နှစ်ဆဲ့ ခြောက်နှစ်မြောက်၌ ဤတရားကဗျည်းကို ရေးထိုးစေ၏။ (ဦးဖိုးလတ်, အသောကကျောက်စာများ၊)

“Thus spake king Devanampiya Piyadasi: - ‘In the twelfth year of my anointment, a religious edict (was) published for the pleasure and profit of the world; having destroyed that (document) and regarding my former religion as sin, I now for the benefit of the world proclaim the fact. And this (among my nobles, among my near relations, and among my dependants, whatsoever pleasures I may thus abandon,) I therefore cause to be destroyed; and I proclaim the same in all the congregations; while I pray with every variety of prayer for those who differ from me in creed, that they following after my proper example may with me attain unto eternal salvation: wherefore the present edict of religion is promulgated in this twenty-seventh year of my anointment.’ ” (Tr. Thus saith His Sacred and Gracious Majesty: By me consecrated twelve years was caused to be inscribed a body of Religious Edicts for the good and happiness of the people that they, making that their own, might attain to that and that (i.e., a corresponding) growth in Dharma.  (Thinking): "thus will be (secured) the good and happiness of people," I am attending not only to (my) relatives, but to those who are near, and far, in order that I might lead them to happiness, and I am ordaining accordingly.  Thus do I also attend to all classes.  All sects are also honoured by me with various offerings. But that which is one's own approach (or choice) is considered by me as the most essential.  By me consecrated twenty-six years was this Religious Edict caused to be inscribed. (R.K. Mookerji, Asoka)
